This review is about my 3D2N stay at the Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur Chinatown hotel, with a close girl friend of mine.

Trip to Kuala Lumpur
Several months ago, I did some travelling with a friend in Kuala Lumpur (KL), and we mostly visited the KL Sentral and Chinatown areas. We stayed in bunch of hotels there, including: Hilton KL, Le Meridien, Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral, and of course, here at the Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur Chinatown.
(review of the other KL hotels to come soon, I promise)
Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur: Night view from Chinatown street
The stay was redeemed using Marriott Bonvoy points. At the time of redemption (which was months ahead of my stay), the cost was about 11,500 points per night, though rates are always subject to change.
Either way – this is a very good rate for a room stay (For comparison, a similar sized room or type of room in Japan is about double to triple the amount of required points).
Chinatown in KL
The Four Points by Sheraton KL Chinatown is located near Pasar Seni LRT.
Pasar Seni LRT stop
To get to the hotel, take the LRT from KL Sentral to Pasar Seni station, located just one stop down the line on the Kelana Jaya LRT route, and take a short walk from there.
Street right outside the hotel
The very walkable and picturesque Chinatown is literally at its doorstep – don’t miss it; its real gorgeous at night.
So pretty
In fact, when my friend and I arrived, it was already late in the evening – we literally checked in, threw our bags down, and immediately went out to grab food before the shops closed for a walk.
Lovely restaurants and bars everywhere
Four Points by Sherton Kuala Lumpur Chinatown: check-in
With my American Express Platinum Charge card, I possessed Elite Gold status for Marriott Bonvoy, and one of the perks is a possible room upgrade (subject to availability), and 2pm late checkout.
Check-in counter and lobby area
At the time of stay, the hotel was pretty full and thus, no room upgrades were afforded to us. Not a biggie – after all, upgrades are ALWAYS subject to availability.
However, the staff still let us have the 2pm late checkout benefit.
To the lifts
Once we got the key cards, we took the lift straight to our room.
One King Bed Guest Room
And here was our dwelling place for the next two nights.
One King Bed
Immediately, upon entering the room – our eyes were drawn to the painting on the wall. Something that resembles old Chinatown in KL.
Love the Chinatown painting on the wall
The 28 square meter room had a pretty standard furnising – chair, workdesk area, bedside tables, tea and coffee amenities, wardrobe, etc – everything you can expect from a hotel of this standard.
Room layout
Armchair and Coffee Table
Due to the room’s design, the room actually feels larger than 28 square meteres – the space under the tables, bench, and wardrobe area does means that shoes and small-enough items can fit underneath – which is truly a great use of space.
Other side of the room
Clean and Streamlined look
A mini fridge and ironing board was hidden from view – again, this probably contributed to the spacious feel of the room, having amenities hidden behind closed doors.
Open some cupboard doors – Wardrobe (left) and mini fridge (right)
Coffee and Tea amenities were also pretty standard.
DIY coffee and tea
What I did get as a welcome gift though (i’m not sure if it’s because i’m a Marriott Gold member, of it’s a regular welcome gift), was this cute little box of chocolates.
The packaging feels so symbolic of this place
And here was the gorgeous view from the room.
View from the windows
Bathroom
The bathroom had a simple and standard design. Right at the entrance’s the sink…
Bathroom
On one side is the shower…
Shower
… completed with soap, shampoo and conditioner, of course…
ACTIV body care brand
And slightly beyond that is the toilet.
With towel storage
The other bath amenities by the sink are also pretty standard.
Toothbrush, Nail file, Body Lotion, Cotton pads, Shower Cap
JANN – Beautiful Cocktail Bar
Now, I don’t usually say this, but what makes this hotel stay worth it: JANN Bar.
JANN
For a start, if one sits near by glass walls or right outside, the view is STUNNING.
Stunning
Outdoor seating
It is one of the most unique bars in KL, and the menu has inventive cocktails that captures the essence of KL’s Chinatown.
My friend and I had a couple of drinks here and gosh, we were SO impressed.
For our first round: I had a Hua (flower) – a combo of gin, lavendar, osmanthus and fortified wine, while my friend had Muachi – literally taken after the local dessert of glutinous rice and peanuts, but fused with genmaicha and vodka and served on the rocks.
Hua (left) and Muachi (right)
‘Hua’ literally had Flowers in there. A lovely touch!
Of course, we had to have seconds here; how can one drink be enough when there are so many to try?
Round two: Dragon Back (left) and Dear Jann (right)
I had the Dear Jann, a gin-based cocktail based on apricot, elderflower, white whine, and lemon, and balanced with sour orange peels. WOW.
REAL packet of orange peel. With literal orange peels.
And my friend had Dragon Back – a variation of Long Jing Cha (Pun on the Dragon’s Tea).
And then, the background starts to blur…
The night here – with the views, amazing drinks, and even more amazing company of one of my best friends, made it one of the best cocktail bar experiences I’ve ever had in my life.
Swimming Pool and Gym
The pool is located right next to Jann.
Night view
As such, it has the same skyline. The friend and I didn’t swim (we were too busy drinking and trotting around Chinatown) but I honestly we had an extra day here, just to chill at the pool.
peaceful
Notice the reflection of lights?
For those who prefer the gym, there is one here that is well equipped with dumbbells, threadmills, bicycles, and a variety of weight training machines.
The one here seems to be always empty. Oh well.
To motivate oneself, some Chinese dieties will be watching over you.
I’m not sure if i want to exercise here now. LOL.
Breakfast at Quan’s Kitchen
Breakfast is a buffet event at Quan’s Kitchen.
Quan’s Kitchen
When my friend and I stayed, the breakfast was not originally included in our room package – so this is paid add on, at a rate of RM 60++ per pax.
Atas (high class) Kopitiam, yes?
Is it just me, or is the buffet spread in Malaysian hotels are always so good? I’ve noticed these trends at Aloft and Hilton KL as well – the spread is truly phenomenal in these places.
Not surprising, given how much Malaysians love food.
Love the breakfast buffet benches. Great variety of juice there.
And here’s some of their very impressive spread.
Breads! Yummy carbs, anyone?
Noodle station
Cold cuts and fresh fruit
Dim Sum station
Porridge / Congee station with assortment of condiments
Of course, there’s the standard fare of hash browns, sausages, eggs and ham.
Western station
And what many Malaysians consider to be their national dish: Nasi Lemak
Malaysian Nasi Lemak (coconut rice) station
Oh, and this was fun – at the salad bar, diners can cut their own salad, fresh from the plant. At least you know it’s not pre-packaged. 🙂
As fresh as vegetables can get
Overall Review
The 3D2N stay at Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur Chinatown was wonderful. The ultimate plus points were (i) convenient and being a stone’s throw away from Chinatown and a little more to Petaling street, and (ii) The bar – JANN.
JANN
Unexpectedly – JANN was the most memorable part of our stay there. The cocktails were truly unique and WOWed us in a way that no other bar had before. Honestly, if I could ever visit KL again, if opportunity permits, I will get my ass down to JANN – and that’s even if I weren’t staying in the area.
Wish you were here
I’ve lost track of how many months ago was my stay (sorry readers, I was super busy) but my friend and I still talk about JANN. Alas, this review wasn’t supposed to be so bar-centric, but, it is what it is – a testament that we have truly found a gem in KL’s Chinatown.
