American Express Platinum Charge Card 2023 benefits

Over the past years, there’s been modifications here and there to the card’s benefits, and my last update was in late 2021. Since then, there have been some REALLY MAJOR changes, so a new update is warranted.

This blog entry will focus SOLEY on the benefits of the American Express Platinum Charge Card benefits, as of February 2023.

~NEW IN: S$1204 STATEMENT CREDITS~

In early 2023, American Express announced a new benefit: S$1204 worth of statement credits, spread out across four categories:

• S$400 dining credits: to be comprised of S$200 local and S$200 for overseas participating dining establishments.
• S$400 lifestyle credits: for Spa treatments and Alcohol.
• S$204 entertainment credits: for monthly news or music streaming services.
• S$200 airline credits: applicable for flight purchases with Singapore Airlines and Scoot.

In addition, the American Express Platinum Charge card has more dining, travel and hotel, and other lifestyle benefits, as document below.

~DINING BENEFITS~

(1) Extensive Dining Vouchers

Upon annual fee Amex Platinum Charge Card holders would receive the following vouchers, also on an annual basis.

SGD 50 dining voucher for Basque Kitchen Singapore (x2 pieces)

• S$100 vouchers at Jaan by Kirk Westaway (S$50 each, x2) – limited to one voucher per visit, no minimum spend required. Minimum of two diners required.
• S$100 at Basque Kitchen by Aitor (S$50 each, x2) – limited to one voucher per visit, no minimum spend required. Minimum of two diners required.
• S$100 voucher for Tower Club Singapore
• 50% off 8-10 Adults at either Asian Market Cafe (Fairmont), Clove (Swissotel the Stamford), or Ellenborough Market Cafe (Paradox Singapore Merchant Court)
• Complimentary cake / bottle of wine at participating restaurants at Fairmont, Swissotel the Stamford, or Swissotel Merchant Court (x2) – I’ve personally redeemed cake from Prego and Mikuni
• S$100 dine-in voucher at Wooloomooloo Steakhouse Singapore (minimum spend of S$250 required). Applies to a la carte menu only.
• $50 off at participating restaurants at Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel (minimum spend of $100 required).
• Complimentary bottle of house wine with S$200 spend at Wan Hao Chinese restaurant at Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel. Valid on Platinum member’s birthday month and the following month. Voucher can be used in conjunction with Love Dining benefits. 
• 30% savings on a la carte dine-in or takeaway at Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant at Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel. No minimum spend required, but voucher CANNOT be combined with Love Dining benefits.

(2) Chillax! By American Express

Chillax features perks such as complimentary drinks or 1-for-1 Drinks. For those who love to wind down with a good drink after work, Chillax is great for trying out bespoke bars,  especially if you’re in the Orchard or Central Business District areas.

(3) Love Dining

American Express Platinum Charge Card holders get to enjoy huge discounts (Up to 50% off!) when dining in participating restaurants and hotels. Places include: St. Regis Singapore, Fairmont Singapore, Swissotel the stamford, Regent Singapore, and other distinguished dining venues.

• Mandarin Oriental Singapore (Deluxe Room, Ocean View, breakfast included)
• Other Overseas locations across  Mandarin Oriental Properties (e.g. Bangkok, Jakarta), Banyan Tree Properties (e.g. Yangshuo, Kuala Lumpur), Angsana hotels (e.g. Phuket, Vietnam, Laos)

(2) Vouchers: Discounts / Room upgrades at Fairmont, Swissotel, Paradox Singapore Merchant Court

Vouchers include the following:

• Complimentary Room Upgrade Vouchers for Fairmont Singapore, and Swissotel the Stamford, and Paradox Singapore Merchant Court at Clarke Quay (x5).
• Special Weekend Rate voucher at Swissotel Merchant Court:  SGD 230 / night.
• Special Weekend Rate voucher at Swissotel the Stamford: SGD 250 / night.
• Special Weekend Rate voucher at Fairmont Singapore: SGD 270 / night.

Voucher: Complimentary Room Upgrade at Fairmont Singapore, Swissotel the Stamford, Swissotel Merchart Court (x5 pieces)

(3) Elite Hotel Statuses

Amex Platinum Charge Card holders receive Elite Hotel Statuses in the following hotel membership programmes:

• Marriott Bonvoy – Gold Elite Status
• Radisson Rewards: Gold Status
• Hilton Honors – Gold Status
• DISCOVERY – Platinum Status

Note: Shangri-La (Jade status) used to be part of the Elite Hotel Status benefits, but they have left as of March 2021. Since then, they have been replaced by DISCOVERY.

(4) Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR)

Booking at participating hotels includes these benefits:

• • Complimentary breakfast for two daily
  • Room upgrade at check-in, subject to availability
  • 12pm check-in, subject to availability
  • 4pm late check-out gauranteed
  • Hotel credits: USD 100, use during stay for spa / dining (varies by property – this could be other amounts or alternatively replaced with complimentary meal)
  • Bonus: FHR benefits can combine with benefits of hotel loyalty programmes.

I’ve used these benefits both locally and abroad. Within Singapore, I’ve done a staycation using FHR benefits at Shangri-la Singapore.

In Japan, I’ve used FHR benefits at Conrad Tokyo.

(5) IAP: International Airline Programme

Platinum Charge Card holders receive:

Special/Discounted airfares on Business and First class flights. Participating airlines include: Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Emirates.

(6) Unlimited Airport Lounge visitations

This benefits applies to:

• The Principal Cardholder + one guest,
• ONE supplementary card holderss + one guest

Amex Platinum Charge card holders receive a complimentary unlimited Priority Pass membership – for both the principal card holder and ONE supplmentary card holder.

Lounge programs and partners include:

• Escape Lounges – The Centurion Studio Partner
• Priority Pass Lounges
• Plaza Premium Airport Lounges
• Delta Sky Club Lounges
• Lufthansa (complimentary access to select Lufthansa Business Lounges regardless of ticket class, and Lufthansa Senator Lounges when flying business class).
• Airspace Lounges

Previously, Platinum Charge Card holders received S$400 Air Travel Credits and S$400 Lodging Credits. This benefit has ended as of 31st January 2023. Instead, it is replaced by S$1204 worth of statement credits (read more here).

Platinum at Basque Kitchen [NEW]

• $100 voucher for dining at Basque Kitchen by Aitor (I’ve also indicated this in the dining benefits section above on this page)
• Platinum and Centurion Members can look forward to a dedicated space in Basque Kitchen by Aitor with best views of the Fullerton waterfront and dedicated seats at the Pintxos Bar.
• In addition, get access to priority reservations for the restaurant, and a suite of complimentary experiences including a glass of 2012 Boërl & Kroff Blanc de Noirs for Centurion Members, a glass of 2006 Piper-Heidsieck “Cuvée Rare” Brut Champagne for Platinum Charge Members and complimentary valet service.

(3) Shopping Mall Benefits [NEW]

• Paragon Club Prestige Membership (Request here)
• Marina Bay Sands – Sands Rewards Prestige Membership (Request here)
• Enjoy all-day complimentary parking at Great World on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

(4) Golf and Yacht benefits

Regional Gold Programme

• Platinum Members enjoy complimentary green fees when they bring along one (1) paying guests on weekdays and two (2) paying guests on weekends with the Regional Golf Programme.

Enhanced Golf Programme

• Virtual Golf at Five Iron Golf Singapore, CityGolfer, and Alpha Indoor Golf: Enjoy a complimentary 2 hours session with 1 accompanying paying guest at Five Iron Golf Singapore, CityGolfer abd Alpha Indoor Golf. Additionally, get 10% savings on all à la carte food and beverage orders as you tee-off at Five Iron Golf Singapore.
• Driving Range Benefit at Warren Golf & Country Club. Get 100% more complimentary balls per visit, with minimum purchase of 100 range balls and maximum purchase of 200 range balls.

(5) Random offers for Amex Card Holders

Every now and then, I receive news that Amex has released new promotions (typically lasting a few weeks to months); these can be saved to the card by logging into the account via the amex app or online. 

A recent one would be this deal for online shopping and hotels.

(6) Welcome Gift (new card members only)

In 2020, when I signed up for the Platinum Charge Card, I received a complimentary 2D1N stay at Capella Singapore (Premier Garden view room)

However, as this is a welcome gift for a credit card sign up, the gift is subjected to change by American Express. Currently, as of February 2023, the welcome gift is a one night stay at the Ritz Carlton, Singapore (subject to change as time goes by).

In previous years, Platinum charge card holders did NOT have to pay the annual fees of other American Express cards that they own.

Unfortunately, that has changed as of November 2022.
