Chanel Deauville Tote: Medium

I love the Chanel Deauville Tote – it’s an easy, fuss-free throw everything in kind of bag. In fact, I’ve done a Chanel Deauville review more than once – in previous blog posts, I’ve declared it the perfect staycation companion…

By the Pool. Behold the striped Deauville, from the Chanel Métiers d’Art (pre-fall) 2018 Collection.

Chanel Deauville Tote: Large

However, the stripey Deauville above is the Medium-sized one. Measuring 34cm x 25cm x 15cm (or 13.4″ x 10″ x 5.9″), it was mostly large enough for my baby-ferrying needs.

That was, until my second child came along.

Suddenly, I had to carry stuff for TWO small children instead of one.

Of course, I needed a larger baby bag. Screw it, any excuse for more Chanel.

Anyhow, the larger Deauville, measuring 39cm x 30cm x 22cm (or 15.4′ x 12.2′ x 8.3′), was significantly larger than the Medium one.

Plus, the fact that it has extra handles  just makes it better (the medium one has no handles)

I will always remember the day I took this home – the box was HUGE – I had never seen a chanel box that big before.

Not that one can tell in pictures. But trust me, I’m 154cm tall; I KNOW it when a bag is huge, LOL

But once the unboxing was done, and I could fully let it sink in that the bag was MINE, all thoughts about the monstrously-sized packaging flew out the window.

For this Chanel Deauville review, I gotta say, the most beautiful part of this bag is the 3D pearl logo. Its shimmery, it pops out (literally), and yet it is subtle – a lovely cream 3D ‘CHANEL’ wording against an equally cream background.

Still perfect on a Stroller

The large deauville tote has both (i) handles and (ii) shoulder straps.

Like its medium-sized sister, the large version hangs just as effortlessly on a baby stroller.

At the Shoppers at Marina Bay Sands. Again.

For a large tote, it is rather lightweight. While it is technically possible to hang it from EITHER the handles or the strap, I predominantly hang it from the strap. This way, is it incredibly easy to get in-and-out of, and I have no problems grabbing anything quickly for the baby.

Honestly, just having the words ‘CHANEL’ and ‘PARIS’ there makes me a little happier

What fits in the Bag

Honestly, on most days i’m throwing in a mix of spare baby clothes, towels, snacks, baby toys, and a water bottle – all in a quick easy and highly disorganized fashion. But for the sake of this Chanel Deauville review, let’s imagine bringing it to work.

The Deauville has a zippered compartment on one side…

It also has pockets by the corner sides of the bag

… and two large pockets on the other.

A cardholder or small wallet slides easily into one of these compartments. Using the example of my chanel square wallet – see how it effortlessly fits right into the pocket?

Peek-a-boo. All in!

However, I usually use a bag organizer – it’s great for keeping the bag’s shape. My organizer is from samorga, but there are other bag organizers that could work equally well.

I love it also because it helps to keep the bag’s shape really well.

Internally, it is very roomy. Yes, I could have put card holders or key holders in one of the many pockets in that bag organizer, but it’d still be negligible in terms of overall size use.

With a water bottle, A5 sized notebook, and small chanel square wallet

It’s possible to carry a laptop in this bag. The computer shown here has the same in length as the 13-inch macbook, so that would fit just as well too.

Add in a laptop – and there’s still space

Adding in a jacket…

Threw in a coat

At this point – there was still loads of space – above the jacket, in the numerous pockets. While I myself don’t usually carry sunglasses, an umbrella, or little cosmetic pouch (I do however, occasionally carry eye shadow, or lipstick), those things can be added to the Chanel Deauville.

Throwing my lipstick atop the jacket.

Notice the Hermes lipstick? 😀

Concluding Thoughts

This is one of those bags whereby internal disorganization is 100% OK. In this Chanel Deauville review, generally, I’d declare it a very casual bag. Despite it’s huge capacity, the creamy fibers and presence of Pearls does communicate that its a bag for play or childcare rather than an office bag for work.

For a workhorse kind of tote, especially for office work, I would recommend something more elegant, such as the Hermes Garden Party (read here for reviews!)

What about my dear readers – what do you think? Especially for parents – is there any luxury bag that you can recommend as a good solid baby bag? Or Do you just love other luxury bags? I’d love to hear from you – feel free to leave a comment in the box below!
