Hilton KL: a history
I’ve been to Kuala Lumpur tons of times, and Hilton Kuala Lumpur is my favourite place to stay at. To date, I’ve stayed in the following rooms:
It is no surprise then, that I came back here again with a friend. We were going around KL and had stayed at a number of hotels in the Sentral area, namely, Aloft, Le Meridien, and the Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur Chinatown.
We would not give the Twin Deluxe room at Hilton Kuala Lumpur a miss.
Hilton: Gold Status with American Express
As a holder of the American Express Platinum Charge card, as part of the card’s benefits, I hold elite statuses in four major hotel chains, of which the Elite Gold status in the Hilton Honors programme is my favourite.
Gold members receive complimentary room upgrades up to the Executive level (subject to availability), earn bonus points with stays, and get complimentary breakfast thrown in on top of that. Here, breakfast is the most valuable perk; Hilton always does it so well and I’m super grateful that I get to have it as part of the Gold members perks.
As I’ve earned Hilton Honors points at an accelerated rate, there was more than enough points to redeem a one night stay here. At the time of stay, the redemption rate was 35, 000 points per night.
En route to our room
Hilton Kuala Lumpur: Twin Deluxe Room
Behold, 38 square meters of comfort.
Hilton KL: Twin Deluxe Room
The room was large enough for two, and well-equipped with a desk or work area.
Yes, I rolled on the bed before taking the picture
For those familiar with Hilton – the layout is all pretty standard.
I sat here for morning coffee
You know that a hotel cares about the guests’ comfort when there is a pillow menu.

Bathroom
I’ll never get over the large and beautifully marble-clad bathrooms at Hilton KL.
Bathtub
The bathroom here has a tub on one side, and a set of sliding doors that doubles up as mirrors on the other side.
And in the front, a sink and shower area
The bathroom is separated from the bedroom with sliding doors – open or close at your own discretion.
And behind the mirror sliding doors are shelves and drawers for guests’ use
Almost hilariously, the toilet is cordorned off behind the sink area.
Almost like a secret passage
Overall, the bathroom is still my favourite part of the room. Large, ergonomically designed, and beautiful – what more could one ask for?
Breakfast at Vasco’s
As a Hilton Gold member, breakfast is complimentary. This is probably the biggest perk of being a Hilton Gold or Diamond member – the buffet spreads are truly phenomenal and worth waking up for.
Breads and Pastries and Malay Kuih
Doughtnut wall
It is an international spread – with a wide variety of local and western options.
Salad Bar
Everything was amazing in both quality and variety. Even the salad bar was well thought out with lots of options provided, and the fruits had both tropical and imported varieties.
Colourful Fruits
The local fare truly captured Malaysia’s multi-cultural food scene – there were more chinese options such as the noodle stall, Malay dishes (e.g. Nasi Lemak), and an Indian station.
Noodle Section – customize your ingredients
DIY nasi lemak
Local fried rice, fried noodles, vegetables, and congee
Indian section
The more stereotypical western breakfast options (e.g. sausages, hash brown, eggs) was fairly popular. As was the cheese and cereal section.
Bacon. Ham. Sauteed Mushrooms. Sausages. Tomatoes. Potatoes. Yum.
Cereals and Yogurts
Cheeses and Cold Cuts
Egg station
Juice bar
Overall – breakfast was crowded, but truly satisfying. Be it friends, couples, families I highly recommend it – there will be SOMETHING for everyone.
Swimming Pool and Gym
I’ve written about the pool in my previous post about Hilton KL’s Grand Executive Suite (read more here!), and I’ll say it again – Don’t miss the pool, it’s awesome. Probably the best hotel pool in KL Sentral.
So. Very. Long.
The pool is jointly shared between Hilton KL and Le Meridien. It’s a nice, meandering way with a slide and waterfall area in the middle, and a kiddy pool at one end.
Waterfall and Slide
The best kind of long-windedness
Right next to the pool is the 24 hour gym and spa.
Loads of equipment
And facilities include a steam room and jacuzzi bath.
Steam room
Jacuzzi. Not usually under maintenance. Ah well.
Overall Thoughts
After staying here so many times, I can say that this is my favourite hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Truly, Hilton KL deserves its reputation as a five-star hotel – the service is amazing, the rooms comfortable, facilites are top notch, and the overall stay always leaves me happy and slightly regretful at checkout.
