Hermes Gold Colour

Hermes Gold colour is a classic. Despite its name, the shade isn’t actually ‘gold’. It is Hermes Gold, which carries light undertones of orange, and the overall neutral-brown colour is closer to caramel, wood, or dark beige.

Hermes Kelly 28 (left) and Hermes Picotin 22 (right), both in Gold

Hermes Gold colour is hugely popular; it is one of the most requested shades, alongside Etoupe (taupe/grey) and Black / Noir.

It’s not surprising to see why. Neutral-toned and idiot-proof, for most people, it literally goes with anything and is said to match almost any wardrobe.

Personal preference: I love it when the rest of the outfit is neutral as well

I’m going to put Gold’s versatility to the test. Armed with the Hermes Kelly 28 and the Hermes Picotin 22, I’ll be matching the Hermes Gold colour around with Hermes twillies of various shades. Let’s how the overall looks turn out.

Assortment of Hermes Twillies

Having the Blues

Blue is one of nature’s most prominent colours. It’s the colour of the sea, and a rich dark blue can feel mysterious or calm and serene.

Animapolis Twilly in Marine Bleu Royal and Blanc

The Animapolis Twilly, in primarily dark blue with specks of white, strongly contrasts against the Hermes Gold colour, without overpowering it. Colour-wise, it is striking, but not loud.

Contrasting with a slightly gentler blue, the Three Graces Twilly in Bleu Vert, Gold, and Marron simultaneously diverges and blends with Hermes Gold leather.

In the Picotin 22, tying a huge bow reveals some of the near-identical brown shades of the twilly.

For the Kelly 28, I usually wrap the twilly around the bag’s handle – which gives a stunning purplish-blue gradient against the gold.

Beautiful contrast of Gold and Blue

The takeaway here is that with Hermes Gold, contrasting colours work out beautifully together, and it is OK even if the colours do not fully match.

Black and Yellow

For a more mysterious feel, I love the contrast of black and yellow against the Hermes Gold backdrop.

Three Graces Twilly in Noir, Gold, and Taupe

Another Three Graces Twilly is used here, but in the colours of Noir, Gold, and Taupe instead.

Edgy but still feminine. Don’t you agree?

Around the Kelly 28: personally, even though the colour arguably blend more harmoniously in this version of the Three Graces Twilly, I very much prefer the other colour (in Bleu Vert, Gold, and Marron) – somehow the previous Three Graces brightens up the bag, while this one gives it a more serious look.

Serious Business: Black, Midnight Blue and Yellow blends

There is something magical about black and yellow. When juxdaposed alongside each other, these two colours balance and contrast superbly.

Danse Pacifique Twilly in Bleu Nuit, Jaune Vif, and Noir

And Hermes Gold colour becomes a perfect backdrop for it all.

Guess where I went? Hehehe.

Pink and Pastels: the Sweetest Colours

The Mulberry Mini Alexa measures 17cm x 22cm x 10cm, and is typically made out of heavy bovine leather.

The bag comes in a variety of colours. Mine is in the classic chestnut.

Paureres Des Maharajas Twilly in Rouge Grenadine and Rose Mauve

Every twilly has two sides, but not all sides are equal. Some twillies have an obvious side to display. While for others, the twilly could be used on either side. For the Paureres Des Maharajas Twilly, one side is fully pinkish, but flipping it around to use the other side – it suddenly gives a half-red and half-pink pattern.

The other side of the twilly

Because the pink is such a sweet colour, sometimes, I tie a plaited bow on the twilly – staring at the gold hardware and cascading downwards.

Beautiful contrast of Gold and Blue

Confession: I actually do this ONLY with the pink twilly. Never had the feeling or inkling to try it on with the other colours.

On the Kelly 28, pink and pastel shades give off vibes that are just as sweet.

Hermes Springs Springs twilly in Rose, Vert, and Multicolore

For this particular twilly, because of the strip of bright pink at the edge, I love tying a little bow at the handles; it really makes the twilly’s colous pop out a little.

Of Pinks and Pastels and Brown

To make the bow, I pulled the twilly inside the hardware area, fold one side of the bow, and go through the hardware again to make the bow’s other side, and going through it a third time to let the excess fabric cascade beautifully down. (Does that make sense? LOL). The hardware space is narrow enough that it holds the twilly snugly in place.

White and Creamy

So far, the pictures above all depict twillies that are either darker than or closely-shaded to the Hermes Gold colour.

When the twilly is white, the effect is totally different.

Sur Mon Nuage Twilly in Creme, Bleu Ciel and Orange

The colour contrast is still there. I find that pink and pastal shades look more sweet and feminine, while white and cream appears more calm and gentle. Against Hermes Gold colour, it’s as if it visually lightens the bag a little.

Close up. Notice the twilly actually goes kind of well with the bag’s stiching?

A bow works just as beautifully. This one is made with the same technique as the pink bow shown earlier, but I wrapped only half the handles (at the handle – I tucked the end of the twilly in a tight wrap), and ta-dah –  more ribbon flowing out at the end.

Yes, I can tie a bow on the Kelly

Multicoloured Dreams

If i had to pick my favourite twilly to go with Hermes Gold colour, my go-to would be the super fancy multi-coloured one.

Plumetis Twilly

This multicoloured silk beauty is so gorgeous, like a rainbow that just brings life to everything. Looking back, I honestly wished that I bought two of this instead of one, when it was in season.

When it is on the Kelly 28, the bag is totally elevated. I’ve used this Twilly + Bag combo so many times (such as when I brought it to SKAI at Swissotel the Stamford) that I’ve lost count.

Final Thoughts

Hermes makes the most beautiful silk twillies. Twillies decorate the bags, give them a different feel, and just add more joy to the time of bag addiction.

And they go insanely well with any neutral colour from the French fashion house. I personally love the twillies on Hermes Gold colour, but hey, to each his or her own.

Ah wells, perhaps it is the Twilly that goes well with everything, after all.
