Hotel Discounts with American Express

Hotel Discounts are the best, be it for travel, staycation, or eating in at hotel dining establishments.

There’s been a streak of discounts and promotions that’s been coming from American Express over the past few days. Two days ago, I blogged about American Express has offered its Platinum Charge Card holders a complimentary SGD350 worth of dining credits.

And then, (this time for all other Amex cards – not just for Platinum Charge card holders) came another series of shopping and dining discounts – including at Muji, Uniqlo, Paradise Group, Sushiro, and more – whereby cardholders could get statement credits by spending qualifying amounts through their Amex credit cards.

Now, another set of  goodies have been released, and this time American Express is offering hotel discounts.

Hotel Discounts at Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Millennium, Wyndham, and the Ultimate Collection

To snag these shopping and dining discounts, American Express cardholders must

(i) Log into the AMEX app or online accounts to Save The Offer and

(ii) Spend at Participating hotels.

Hotel discounts will be credited to card holders in the form of a cashback.

Pro Tip: if you have more than one American Express credit card, you can save ALL of these to each card, subject to availability. For me, I have THREE cards – The Platinum Charge card, the Platinum Reserve Card, and the Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Ascend Card – and ALL three cards show that these Hotel Discounts are available).

Marriott Bonvoy: Spend $400 or more, get $100 back

Participating Hotels include

  • St Regis Singapore, along with the restaurants there: LaBrezza, YanTing, Brasserie Les Saveurs, Astor Bar, The Drawing Room –  and the Remede Spa!
  • W Singapore – Sentosa Cove, and the restaurants and spa: Skirt, The Kitchen Table, WOOBAR, WETBar, AwaySpa
  • The Vagabond Club, Singapore, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel (hotel only, no dining or spa facilites are participating in the offer)

The offer is valid till 30th November 2021.

My personal recommendation, for St. Regis Singapore and W Singapore at least, is to dine in. These current Hotel Discounts can be stacked with Love Dining benefits after all, with Love Dining, in the best-deal scenario, two adults can already dine at 50% off.

Getting $100 off the spend criteria of $400 is an additional 25% discount that one shouldn’t miss.

For those who love French food, Brasserie Les Saveurs is infinitely romantic. It is one of my family’s favourite fine dining establishments – their a la carte menu boasts a curated French cuisine that’s truly impressive.

Alternatively, a staycation is also a good idea. My family and I have stayed at the St. Regis Singapore, and it’s one of the best staycations that we’ve had to date (So far, only the Capella Singapore is considered a worthy rival).

Things to Note:

(i) The promotion is for transactions made in-person only. Online purchases do not count.

(ii) The SGD400 spending criteria can be done in one or more transactions by 30th November 2021

(ii) Other hotels that are in the Marriott Bonvoy programme that are NOT listed here, do not qualify for the hotel discount

Hyatt: Spend $300 or more, get $75 back

Imge Source: Hyatt Singapore. Featuring the Grand Duplex Suite.

Participating Hotels include

  • Andaz Singapore, along with 665F, Alley on 25, Auntie’s Wok and Steam, Bar Square, Mr Stork, Teppan Chef’s Table.
  • Grand Hyatt Singapore, along with Mezza9, StraitsKitchen, 10 Scotts, Oasis Restaurant, Pete’s Place, Martini bar at mezza9, Brix, Part room at Mezza9, Damai Spa

Once saved to card, the offer is valid till 30th November 2021.

Getting $75 off the $300 spending criteria is akin to a 25% discount –  a good hotel discount either for dining in or staycations.

My personal recommendation is to go for a staycation – both these hotels are part of The Hotel Collection by American Express; book via the website to get additional $100 in hotel credits for a stay as well as receive complimentary room upgrades, subject to availability.

(ii) The SGD300 spending criteria can be done in one or more transactions by 30th November 2021

Hilton: Spend $300 or more, get $60 back

Hilton Singapore, Executive Room

While Singapore has 3 Hilton Properties (Hilton Singapore, Conrad Centennial Singapore, and Hilton Garden Inn), only Hilton Singapore is participating in this Hotel Discount.

  • Hilton Singapore, along with Opus Bar & Grill, Il Cielo, D9 Cakery

My personal take is to go for a staycation rather than dine-in; at Hilton Singapore there are no further dining discounts apart from this one; granted, getting $60 off the $300 spending criteria is ALREADY a 20% discount – which is a pretty good deal in itself.

The other reasons why I recommend a staycation is because

(i) Platinum Charge Card members have a permanent Hilton Honors Gold status, which gives additional perks such as room upgrades (when available), Complimentary Breakfast, and an 80% additional points earned for the stay.

(ii) The Executive Lounge; it’s one of the better ones that actually offers a more extensive “dinner” (though they technically call it evening canapes) and unlimited portions of Afternoon Tea. I’ve had staycations at Hilton Singapore twice – once in the Executive King Room, and another in the Hilton Family Suite – and on both times my family and I enjoyed the stay and the Executive Lounge.

Millennnium Hotels & Resorts: Spend $400 or more, get $120 back

Image Source: M Social. Featuring the Loft Premier Room.

Participating properties that carry the Hotel Discounts include the following

  • M Social Hotel Singapore, along with Beast & Butterflies
  • Orchard Hotel Singapore, along with Hua Ting Restaurant and The Orchard Cafe

The following Hotels provide FOOD AND BEVERAGE discounts only – meaning, staycations here will not qualify for the promotions.

  • Studio M Hotel Singapore (F&B only) at MEMO
  • Copthorne King’s Hotel Singapore (F&B only) at Princess Terrace Authentic Penang Cuisine, Tien Court Restaurant
  • M Hotel Singapore (F&B only) at Cafe 2000
  • Copthorne King’s Hotel Singapore (F&B only) at Princess Terrace Authentic Penang Cuisine, Tien Court Restaurant
  • Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore (F&B only) at Grissini Italian Grill Restaurant, Food Capital, Tempo

Offers are valid till 30th November 2021.

I can’t really say much about these hotels or their dining establishments – I haven’t been to any of them myself. However I have heard good things about M Social – they are known for their elegantly-designed Loft rooms, so it’s worth a staycation if one wants something more unconventional. Plus, getting $120 off $400 is a steep 30% discount.

Dining-wise, in my personal experience with American Express, all their dining partners have so far been good, if not exceedingly blowing our expectations, in a good way. The only exception is Mad for Garlic, and that was in the past – they are no longer part of the Love Dining programme.

Things to Note:

(i) The promotion is for transactions made either in-person OR online at www.millenniumhotels.com

(ii) The SGD400 spending criteria can be done in one or more transactions by 30th November 2021

Ramada by Wyndham Singapore at Zhongshan Park: Spend $300 or more, get $75 back

There is only one participating property here

  • Ramada by Wyndham Singapore at Zhongsan park, along with New Ubin Seafood Zhongshan Park

Once saved to card, the offer is valid till 30th November 2021.

Getting $75 off the $300 spending criteria is akin to a 25% discount –  which is great, and comparable to all the other discounts listed here so far.

In this list – I would say that this is in fact one of the cheaper accomodations, with the City View rooms having a starting price of SGD 170 per night.

Things to Note:

(i) The promotion is for transactions made in-person only. Online purchases do not count.

(ii) The SGD300 spending criteria can be done in one or more transactions by 30th November 2021

The Unlimited Collection by Oakwood: Spend $200 or more, get $50 back

  • Wanderlust, The Unlimited Collection by Oakwood  (hotel only, no participating restaurants, bars, or spa)

Once saved to card, the offer is valid till 30th November 2021.

Getting $50 off the $200 spending criteria is akin to a 25% discount – a deal that’s definitely worth considering.

(ii) The SGD200 spending criteria can be done in one or more transactions by 30th November 2021

Hotel Discounts Commentary

This isn’t the first time that American Express has offered hotel discounts. Periodically, such deals do appear – in the past I’ve also seen equally attractive promotions for Waldorf Astoria and Conrad, and Hilton Hotels do repeatedly have similar offers. I absolutely love being surprised – opening the app to find a good offer there – and it’s one of the reasons why I highly recommend American Express.

Note: After using the American Express Platinum Charge card for over a year, I’ve also written a REVIEW to evaluate the card after this time – do check out my post-one year usage review right here!
